You just never know....

A couple of months ago a friend told me about a weimaraner who needed a new home. Of course I was ready to help. As it turns out this weimaraner had an impressive background. His dad won Best of Breed at Westminster several years ago and he himself was successfully shown as a puppy. So how then did he end up in this condition?

Grossly underweight....

Staph infection on his muzzle...

...his nails were exceedingly ovefrgrown, his tail was raw and red from self mutilation and he had a sore on his chest from laying on hard surfaces too long.

My friend, fellow trainer and owner of a champion lab, Beth Quinn, talked me into purchasing this dog if for no other reason than to get him into a healthy, stress free environment where he could prosper...

...and prosper he did! After two months of intensive TLC, good nutrition from Nature's Variety and proper care this is what he became...

And Mav walked away Best of Breed and Winner's Dog both days of this show in Charlottesville, Va. I venture to say there weren't any other dogs in this show who had to overcome the neglect he had been shown. Most conformation dogs live lives of luxory and pampering. Mav hasn't had those priviledges for some time...until now. He's my boy and I couldn't be more proud of him for what he has already accomplished. Go Mav!

Special thanks go out to Darlene Bergen for handling Mav in his show and giving him the gentle guidance and caring nature he deserves. She really went to great lengths to keep Maverik comfortable and made sure he had every opportunity to shine once again. She has no idea how much I appreciate what she has done for him.
